2018 Goals: Writing and Blogging

2017 has been a great year for both writing and blogging for me, and I only started focusing more on these things in the second half of the year! I didn’t hit every goal I set for writing and blogging this year. I posted on my blog a lot, but it was mostly book reviews. I love writing book reviews, but I wanted to write more than just book reviews. I did my first NaNoWriMo, but I did not reach 50,000 words. However, I started my first book and that in and of itself is an accomplishment.

In 2018, my focus with both my writing and blogging will be consistency. I did a lot of things this year with my blog and my book, but I struggled to maintain a consistent pace. Thus, 2018 will be about getting into and staying in the habit of consistent work on my book and publishing on my blog.

First, goals for my blog.  This year so far, I have accumulated 1,059 visitors on my blog. Next year, I would like to increase my overall visitors to 2,000. I realize this is quite the leap. However, since I only just recently started posting frequently, this goal is not at all unrealistic.

In 2018, I plan to publish a blog post every Tuesday and Friday morning. These posts will be in addition to my book reviews, which will be published as I finish books. I plan on rotating through various topics from tracking my goals, theology, life as a Navy spouse, life in general, encouragements, reflections, reviews and so on.

I would also like to be at a point where I have posts scheduled up to two weeks ahead of time. Having posts scheduled like this will give me some elbow room, just in case of real life (which has an unfortunate way of rearing its ugly head at the most inconvenient of times).

On the “writing a book” side of things, my main goal is to finish the first draft of my book. To do this, I will spend at least an hour a day, five days a week writing on my book. This hour a day is a minimum. Ideally, I will be spending several hours on my book daily. But I’d like to prevent burnout, and I know that some days I may only have time for just an hour. But the main point is, to write something every day, five days a week.

In summary, these are my 2018 active writing and blogging goals:

  • Blog
    • Publish a post every Tuesday and Friday morning
    • Have posts consistently scheduled up to two weeks in advance
    • Publish book reviews as I finish books
  • Writing
    • Finish the first draft of Tears in the Garden
    • Write for at least an hour a day, five days a week

Next week, I will share some personal goals I have for the coming year. And, at the end of the month, I will publish a recap and summary of my 2018 goals.
