Finding Land Book Club

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! I got to spend a quiet, sleepy day with my husband (I took a much-needed three hour nap!) on the day of Christmas. The next day, we enjoyed a fun day and day after Christmas dinner with quite a few of Reid’s coworkers. Today is Reid’s last day of duty before he goes on leave, so this is my catch up, clean up, and pack up for our trip day. We’re looking forward to a fun New Year’s week with my side of the family!

As 2018 wraps up, I’ve been looking forward to and making plans for 2019. As I mentioned in my last post, I am not going to share the bulk of my goals for 2019. Not because I don’t have any goals, but because I do. It’s more important for me to be accountable to myself than for me to talk about all the wonderful things I want to do to people on the internet. Ultimately, the person that my goals affect the most is me. So I’m setting some goals, making small changes, and letting them be seen because they’re happening. Not because I’m talking about them and maybe doing them.

However, one of my goals for 2019 involves all of you! In 2019, I want to run a successful online book club. If you follow me on Instagram and watch my stories, you may already know where I’m going with this. I have piles of books on my shelf and on my TBR (to be read) list that I have always wanted to read but just haven’t. That’s what I want this book club to be about. Those books that you always say, “oh, I’ll get to that at some point” or “that’s a classic I should read/need to read/know I would love” but you just somehow still haven’t read it. For me, the books that stand out the most are the Lord of the Rings books. 20181227_0849418649604829099924216.jpg

I did read The Hobbit a few years ago and loved it (of course). But I never made that next step towards reading The Lord of the Rings. I have finally decided to actually do something about it. As a “happy birthday to me” for my birthday this year, I purchased this gorgeous Hobbit + Lord of the Rings box set that I’ve been drooling over at Barnes and Noble.

And now, I am starting a book club to read these books alongside my fellow book lovers. Starting January 7th, I and anyone who wishes to join me will start reading The Hobbit. After The Hobbit, we will start The Fellowship of the Ring, and continue until we have reached the end of Return of the King. After we finish The Lord of the Rings, there will be more books to read together.

I have created a Facebook group for the book club. Over there, we will build community and enjoy discussions on what we are reading and all things related to it! Every Friday, I will post a weekly check-in and “main discussion” post. There, I will ask everyone to check in with where they’re at in the book we are currently reading. I will also include some discussion questions to narrow in our discussion of the book on what’s going on, how we feel about it, and how we relate to it. However, I do want everyone to post throughout the week as well! As long as it relates to what we’re reading in some way, anything is fair game. 🙂 I do hope you will join me and others as we take on Tolkien’s incredible fantasy works in 2019!

You can join the Facebook group here.
