At the beginning of January, I reactivated my Kindle Unlimited membership. Amazon Prime had a deal going for it, so I decided it would be a good time to renew. I’ll probably deactivate once my deal is up (I use it primarily for audiobooks and I have access to those through my library for free), but it’s nice to have it right now!
What Have You Done by Matthew Farrell is one of two books that completed during last weekend’s 24in48 Readathon. I made good progress on three other books and hit 18 and a half hours of reading, so it was definitely a productive weekend! In July, I’m shooting for the full 24 hours. If you don’t hear from me July 20-21, don’t fret, I’m just reading! Which is honestly what I’m doing most of the time when I’m AWOL. Sorry, not sorry.
Anyway, this book, What Have You Done by Matthew Farrell was a ride and then some! When Liam Dwyer is working a crime scene and discovers the murder victim is, in fact, his ex-lover, he panics. He has no memory of the previous night. What if he, somehow, did this to her?? Why would he do this to her? They had split amicably: him promising to rekindle things with his wife and her going on her merry way.
Liam confides in his brother, Sean, who is on the same police force. Sean immediately sets to work helping Liam sever any and all connections that could possibly be made between Liam and his dead mistress. But as Sean pushes hard for Liam to continue hiding that he knew the victim, the more Liam struggles to know what is real and what isn’t. And it doesn’t take long for Liam to begin to suspect that Sean has a bigger stake in this than it seems…
What Have You Done is both suspenseful and predictable. I had most of the storyline figured out about a quarter of the way into the book. Some things were still a surprise, but the whodunnit and why were not hard to figure out. While an engaging read, What Have You Done was not necessarily mysterious. He does, however, do the shock factor very well! (with the things that managed to actually be a surprise in the end)
What Have You Done by Matthew Farrell gets 3/5 stars.
